Lower Calorie Hummus Recipe

Lower calorie hummus recipe with less oil and tahini is still packed with lots of lemony garlic flavor. Easy to make, it’s great for diet and weight loss.

INGREDIENTSplease use organic ingredients

  • 1C Beans, canned or homemade beans – garbanzo beans, white beans, pinto beans, etc.
  • 1T Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Walnut Oil, or Macadamia Nut Oil + some as garnish
  • 1T Tahini or 100% Nut Butter – almond, walnut, pecan, hazelnut
  • 1/2 Lemon, fresh squeezed or 1 Lime, fresh squeezed
  • 1 Garlic Clove, peeled
  • Himalayan or Celtic Sea Salt, to taste
  • Dash of Chipotle Pepper or Chili Pepper
  • Optional Toppings:  smoked paprika, sprig of Italian Parsley, pumpkin seeds, or pine nuts

ADDITIONS:

  • 1t Smoked Paprika
  • Artichokes in brine, drained
  • Sundried Tomatoes – not in oil
  • Roasted Garlic
  • Roasted Red Bell Pepper
  • Jalapeno – use with lime juice

Note: please use organic ingredients

DIRECTIONS: add all ingredients to a food processor. Blend until thick and creamy. If hummus is too thick add additional lemon juice. Or a little water. Transfer to a decorative serving dish.

Optional – drizzle a little extra oil on top of the hummus. Garnish with smoked paprika or use chipotle or chili pepper for a spicier dip.  Top with a sprig of Italian parsley or pine nuts or pumpkin seeds.

SERVE WITH:  Fresh cut raw vegetables like carrot sticks, broccoli florets, and cucumber slices. Or serve with homemade baked pita chips or tortilla chips made with sprouted grain corn tortillas or sprouted grain tortillas.
